(Under the) Weather Updates

I found myself under the weather this weekend. The cool wet weather has not helped either. I have spent the majority of my downtime either sleeping or drinking tea. With not much creative energy I thought that I would take this time to do a few updates.
Moosehide MocsI have been a moc binge. First it was my L.L. Bean camp mocs (A trip to Bean), then a pair of Minnetonka classic drivers (The Summer of Mocs), and then another pair of Minnentonkas. I originally purchased a size 8 in the classic driver. It ended up being a little too narrow. I grabbed an 8.5 and they are about perfect. I liked them so much that I ordered a pair of the Moosehide driving mocs (see here). They are remarkably comfortable. More so than the drivers, but they don’t look quite as cool. They also run smaller and don’t come in half sizes. I ended up with a size 10.
Pink Brushed ShetlandMy next pick-up was very similar. I liked my brushed PRL sweater (Featured in my sweater showdown) so much that I purchased the pink one when they went back on sale. The pink is…pink! I am not shy about wearing pink, but this pushed me into new territory. I have worn the sweater at least 10 times since I purchased it. The pink did not deter me at all. I enjoyed wearing it.

I probably don’t do updates enough. These two updates in particular highlight the biggest reasons that there would be updates. The first is fit. I am sure that any of you that online shop can relate. The next is that I like it something so much that I buy another. This is something that I encourage and will have more on that in an upcoming post. Now I am off to rest.

  1. A great look! And the sweater is cool. Get well soon.

    Best Regards,

Looking Good, but watch the frayed trouser bottoms, even when casual.

I love the texture of your sweater. You can see the quality with no emblematic help. I like pink and wore a light pink OCBD today. However, I am not brave enough to pull off wearing tulip pink. You obviously feel comfortable in it and indeed you should wear it. I have seen F.E Castleberry wear a similar sweater. That is not to say that I am big fan of all his fashion concoctions.

Do you have a link? Can’t find them on the ralph lauren site anymore.

What a coincidence that I bought a pink sweater just two weeks ago. I can confirm it’s great, and it goes with a lot more colors than one might think.

Don’t be shy to wear that sweater, Jerrod, it suits you perfectly. Anyway, pink is still underappreciated.

Tom -The sweater doesn’t seem to be listed on the site anymore.

I like it a lot! Never had a pink sweater myself but indeed OCBD’s, Polo Shirts and socks. Pink looks great especially after the first rays of sun when you have gotten some tan.

Love the pink sweater, Jerrod. Hope I can find a similar one at some point. I agree that pink is an under-appreciated color for men, but I often get complements from my wife and others when I wear it. I have a few pink OCBDs, a pair of pink oxford cloth summer trousers and even a 3/2 seersucker sport coat with un-flapped patch pockets from Brooks. Admittedly, a pink sport coat takes a certain amount of self confidence to pull off, and so far I have worn it only at home and in New Orleans where pink seersucker raises no eyebrows, but it looks great with khakis or linens pants. I hope you recover fully and that warm weather returns to your part of Ohio soon.

Great sweater Jerrod, I do pink shirts and ties but haven’t gone into the knitwear zone yet.The last shot with the matching flowers made my day pal!

This is indeed a great sweater, Jerrod. I purchase the Ralph Lauren wool/cashmere blend sweater (88/12) with each year’s release. Hopefully they continue to offer this sweater–as it is made in Scotland and knitted (seamless) in the round. As you noted previously, it is very light in weight, yet appropriately warm and durable. When they went on sale they could be had for approx. $100-125–a steal compared with the competition! This year they offered a dark gray (almost charcoal mélange version this year that pairs beautifully with an pink or red university stripe OCBD. Enjoy your innovative and thoughtful posts.

I, too, found the Classic Drivers on the too-narrow side. Unfortunately I was of the initial assumption they’d be fine after a “breaking in” period and wore them out and about enough I don’t think a return / exchange is an option. If you know someone who’d want a size 9 (i.e., usually wears a size 8.5) let me know!

    (kidding…sort of)

By the way, the most comfortable mocs I’ve ever worn are Town View Leather’s deerskin lined double soles. They cost more than Minnetonka / LL Bean, but way less than Quoddy (~$120/pair) and run true to size. The most perfect house shoes / slippers I’ve had. But, they’re double-soled, not camp mocs or drivers, so I don’t wear them outside for fear of a shorter half-life.

  13. GTwig says:

After viewing your photo, IMHO you may have been better off purchasing a single pair of Quoddy camp mocs ( I know, I know, very expensive) rather than three pairs of lesser quality that in total must have cost more. I bit the bullet last year and ordered a pair from O’Connell’s and must say they are incredible looking and unbelievably well made. I also have a pair of Bean camp mocs and there is no comparison to the Quoddys.

I made the comment I would have a hard time wearing what I described as Tulip Pink. I had forgotten about a polo style shirt with shell buttons that have owned for several years now. It was made by a company called Harold’s that is now out of business.
I have it on today with my cheapo L.L.Bean Camp Mocs that I wear with shorts and white socks. I feel like a Greek god.

  15. Gary says:

Thumbs up on all of it, ox, including the frayed chinos (the wearing of such is given the nod in The Official Preppy Handbook, so I think you’re good there!).

I’m a huge fan of Beans mocs.

  16. Roger C. Russell II says:

I hope I did not come off like a smart alec to GTwig with my comment about L.L.Bean Camp Mocs. I was just playing around. I do think my L.L.Bean Camp Mocs are okay. However, they definitely are not perfect. It is a shame because they were at one time a great shoe. I wish I had the luxury of spending $275.00-$300.00 for Camp Mocs. I wear Camp Mocs almost every day and I am likely to put them through some activity I would not put a $300.00 shoe through.
By the way I looked up that Town View Moc and that does look like a great product. I wish they made something with a sole that would survive outside wear. I also wish L.L. Bean would put about a $25.00 upgrade to their product.

I would like to hear from you
