New OCBDs

I am probably getting a little ahead of myself, but I could not help it. I pulled these OCBDs out of their packaging and I knew that I had to share them. If you remember a few months back I posted about blowing out the collar on one of my OCBDs (The Ragged, Tattered, and Torn OCBD). Fast forward and I have two new OCBDs from Michael Spencer.
IMG_2329If you aren’t aware of Michael Spencer it is a newer source for Trad approved OCBDs (and an appreciated sponsor of the blog!). This means that there is plenty of collar for roll in their OCBDs and you can choose from other features such as the much beloved flap pocket and locker loop. I chose a Red Candy striped OCBD with a lined collar, flap pocket, and locker loop. Michael Spencer graciously offered to  match me a Blue OCBD with an unlined collar, flap pocket, and locker loop as they really wanted me to be able to compare the collar types.

I have not had the chance to launder my shirts let alone wear them which is why I said that I was getting ahead of myself. I will hold off on reviewing them until I get a few to wear each shirt a few times. Until then you can revisit reader Steve’s review of Michael Spencer here: https://oxfordclothbuttondown.com/2015/10/michael-spencer-ocbd-review/

    Hi Jerrod,
Nice looking shirts, like the red/white one, I used to have these colors on a shirt many years ago. Goes perfect with navy pants.

My favorite OCBD brand. I think you’ll be pleased.

I have the Michael Spencer red/white uni stripe as well (with unlined collar, locker loop, flap pocket with button closure). Great minds think alike. If I recall correctly, their shirts come from the same manufacturing facility as the Brooks Brothers OCBDs. Enjoy your shirts!

love the style, this is a great shirt, will be looking for this.

    Ox,
3.5″ collar point length is not for everyone, on Bilax they certainly were too long for his face and neck length. I hope the point length works for you as they appear to be very fine shirts.

I have a Michael Spencer shirt and am pleased with it. I got it with unlined/unfused collars & cuffs, a locker loop, and three buttons on the collar (and a regular pocket—I don’t care for the flap). It looks good, feels good, and fits well.

  7. Kel says:

Those shirts look fantastic. The material looks substantial. Do you know by chance what the weight of the fabric is? Guessing somewhere around 6 oz/sq yard?

  8. Rob says:

Those look great! I have probably 7 or 8 shirts from Michael Spencer. They’ve been my choice for oxford shirts for over a year now. I always go for the contemporary fit, cut long to make sure it stays tucked. I also ask for tighter cuffs, a locker loop, box pleat, and unlined collars/cuffs. The manufacturer and fabric appear to be the same as that of Brooks Brothers. I hope you enjoy these new shirts!

Jerrod, what was your decison in comparing the lined collar to the unlined, on these two shirts?

  10. Andrew says:

Michael spencer and mercer & sons make my favorite oxford cloth shirts. Unlined/unfused collars, plackets and cuffs if you want, great heavy fabric, and ability to customize the fit and features. I get a larger left wrist to accommodate a dive watch, and one arm is slightly longer than the other.

I would like to hear from you
