Wearing Shetlands as outerwear is my jam. I am not sure why, but it is. If I had to take a guess it is because I love to wear sweaters, I love to layer, and of course The OPH.
When using Shetlands as outerwear you have lots of options. On a kind of cool day you can often get by with a Shetland alone. If it’s colder you can toss on a vest which is one of my favorite looks. If its even colder and/or wet I may use one of my Shetlands as an insulating layer under my Barbour. The options and combinations are endless.
If you are a sweater wearing fool like myself this is a no-brainer. Just be warned that if you post a picture on Social Media of you wearing a sweater on a cool morning you may get a response, “It’s going to be 80 degrees here! How are you wearing a Shetland?!?!”
Hi Jerrod, Spot On! this is exactly they way I use them to, they have been a staple for me since the early 80’s and I would say I can’t live without them.
Here in Maryland, we’re still looking forward to Shetland weather. My favorite is Shetland over open-neck oxford shirt, and under an old tweed sport coat. My wife likes the way it looks, but complains about the scratchiness.
What brand is the green vest? Very sharp look.
Mike – I got this vest about 12 years ago at Dick’s Sporting Goods. I did a little research as I get asked quite a bit. It turns out that Quest was (is?) an in-house brand for Dick’s.
Lennart – You are wearing them right!
Richard – I can relate. I have had numerous GF’s love the look, but not the feel of wool. I also agree that they look great under tweeds!
Can you tell us about the wristwatch?
Frank – It is a Timex Men’s T2N227 not to be confused with the larger T2N638 Weekender. I picked it up at Target about 8 years ago.
