The Traddest Gift of All

Snowy Roads

Christmas is approaching quickly.  Which means it’s time to get down to business. While buying gifts for others is where all the fun is at. I still want to know. What’s the traddest gift on your Christmas list this year?

I just received my biggest gift from Santa himself (played by me). I have been wanting a new duffle coat for the last two years. A few weeks ago Brooks Brothers offered a 40% sale on outerwear and I bit.

In the end the duffle coat did not work out. It’s not because the jacket is not nice which it is. The coat ran a little small, but ultimately the kicker was the collar. It made it look like a car coat hybrid. Needless to say I was not in love with the jacket and at that price or even half of that price I should be in teenage type love.

The experience above has not temepered my excitement for the holiday. I have reached a point that I never dreamed of where giving really is more fun that receiving. This may truly be the traddest gift. Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all!

I’ve always liked the LL Bean version of the duffle coat – seems pretty well made.

It was a bit difficult to follow the text until I realized that
the “jacket” and the “duffle coat”
    were the same garment.

Merry Christmas and a Trad New Year!

Gloverall’s Original Montgomery duffle coat is made in England and much “Tradder” than the above Brooks Brothers’ effort. Look out for one in the January sales. I got mine half price from John Simons in London.

Nice looking Duffle, I wear a Gloverall: same brand I wore as a kid! For any potential buyer the ones that say “heritage” (the one I bought run VERY small. I went up 2 sizes~ to a 44. For reference I’m 5″10 and weigh 158. It fits full but no where near a Monty. I have no idea what’s with their sizing.

25 years ago, I bought my (now) husband a classic black Swiss Army Watch at O’Connells for our first Christmas…cost me a weeks pay and he jumped up and down like a contestant that just won a car on The Price Is Right! Many years later that watch is still THE favorite (he became a serious watch collector through no fault of mine) and we are still as happy as we were that Christmas. Cheers…

For my money the best duffle is made in England by the Montgomery Coat Co (not to be confused with the Gloverall ‘Monty’), they claim to be the oldest maker, original supplier to the Admirallty etc etc. However they are excellent coats and at a good price and I love mine.

    Merry Christmas!

Sorry to hear the duffel didn’t work out. It’s mind-boggling that brands try to ‘tweak’ classic items. Unfortunately, that’s BB all-over nowadays.
