The Same but Different

Time for a little compare and contrast. The above picture while being highly disorienting also features two similar but different OCBDs. On the left we have what I would call, work OCBD. On the right we have a more casual version of work OCBD. I like this photo as it illustrates how a few slight tweaks can create a different, but similar feel. I have included the details of each outfit below. Are these outfits similar to you or do you find them very different? What other differences can you spot?

On the left

  • Vintage Tweed Sport Coat
  • JCrew 1040 fit Chinos
  • JPress OCBD
  • Bass Weejuns

On the Right

  • Southwick Cambridge Tweed Sport Coat
  • JCrew 770 fit Chinos
  • Old Lands’ End OCBD
  • LL Bean Blucher Mocs

The shoes, the crease, the tie. That’s the difference between casual Friday at work, and going out for a movie and dinner Friday night (if you can find a sitter 😉

Hi Jerrod, would you be able to elaborate on what makes a mid blue OCBD work vs leisure?
Nice to see you wearing a tie again. What are your thoughts on dark green ties? I’ve not added any into my collection but I’m thinking about it.
Also what are your thoughts on wool trousers instead of cotton ones when paired with Tweed sports coats?
    Thanks

Jerrod, I think I miss read your post. You said “The above picture while being highly disorienting also features two similar but different OCBDs.” And it certainly is!
“two similar but different OCBDs.” I thought this was in reference to the shirts and not yourself.
It would be helpful if you could refer to yourself by another name when also mentioning oxford cloth button down shirts in your blog, perhaps by using your first name, or “the author” etc.

I can see how that could be confusing. I like green ties. I have a handful. I prefer the tweed and chinos look myself, but wool pants can work great with tweeds.

Back in April. I reported for jury duty wearing a blue OCBD with a Kelly green silk knit tie (also a blazer and khakis). Blue and green are terrific together.

Hi Michael, thanks for your reply. That sounds like a really great outfit! From what you’ve said, and also the images above, it seems like a good look. I’ll give it a try soon.

Sorry Ox, in my opinion when a sport jacket is worn wrinkled, sloppy clothes are not allowed. We’re you wearing a G9 it would be acceptable.

I would like to hear from you
